Positive COVID-19 test at Fort Worth Diamond Hill-Jarvis forces volleyball match to be canceled
This is the first match in the Dallas area that was canceled for COVID-19 reasons, a survey by The Dallas Morning News found.
Three weeks into matches, a local volleyball team was forced to cancel a match because of the coronavirus.
Fort Worth Diamond Hill-Jarvis was unable to play against Kennedale on Friday because at least one person within the Diamond Hill-Jarvis program tested positive for COVID-19, Kennedale coach Kelly Carl said.
Diamond Hill-Jarvis coaches and Fort Worth ISD executive director of athletics Todd Vesely did not immediately respond to messages seeking comment.
Eight Dallas-area Class 4A coaches responded to a survey from The Dallas Morning News, and that was the only match in the area that any of those coaches have had canceled for COVID-19 reasons. Only UIL schools in Class 4A and below are playing matches right now, having started Aug. 10, but that doesn’t include any Dallas ISD schools because they won’t begin varsity athletic activities until Tuesday.
TAPPS volleyball teams can begin matches Thursday. UIL schools in 6A and 5A can start practicing Monday and can play their first matches Sept. 14.
