Lady Kats win bi-district title with 17-8 runfest

The Kennedale high school softball program has not lost a bi-district series since 2006. Before that you have to go back to 1996. {{more:[Read more]}}
 
Friday night the Kats added bi-district title #18 with the sweep of Springtown, winning Game one 11-0 and Game two 17-8. Kennedale (15-16-1, 7-3) will now move into the area round next week vs Mineral Wells who defeated Burkburnett thispast week. 2016

It was a battle of offense after the Lady Kats bolted out to 10 run lead in the bottom of the 2nd. Springtown (11-16, 5-3) countered with a single score in the 4th followed by 7 runs in the 5th. Kennedale punched back with 4 runs in the bottom of the 5th and added 3 more in the 6th. Altogether there were 25 runs and 21 hits in the game.
 
on a 73-11 run …
 
For the Lady Kat, this was just a continuation of a pattern over their last 6 games where the Kats have outscored their opponents 73-11 and this includes 4 shutouts. While this season has been a struggle for the Kats, coming in third place in district play for the first time in years, the Kats have proved that they are still a force to be reckon with in the playoffs.
 
never missed a UIL softball playoff …
 
Kennedale softball has never missed a UIL playoff in school history. Despite their current record, their recent play combined with their playoff experience may carry them further yet.

Kennedale scored 17 runs on 11 hits with 2 errors. Springtown scored 7 runs on 10 hits with 5 errors.
 

Lady Kat {{t2:Jamie Franks: }} for Kennedale recorded the win with eight runs allowed, striking out seven, walking four and giving up nine hits. Getting the save was {{t2:Megan Calhoun: }} who got the final 7 outs. She faced 8 batters allowed 1 hit, striking out 1, walking none.

 
Kennedale won the game in the 2nd inning with a passed ball, a sacrifice fly by Calhoun, a two-run double by {{t2:Lexi Neifert: }}, an RBI single by {{t2:Mary Grace Howard: }}, a two-run double by {{t2:Alyssa Bradberry: }}, and a three-run error scoring 10 runs.

Calhoun kept the Pojos off the board striking out 4 of the 11 batters she faced. She was helped with a double play in the 2nd by {{t2:Ashley McElvany: }} (RF) to {{t2:Elizabeth Schiele:

}} (1st) to {{t2:Jenna Webb:}} (C).

Starting with a hard line drive single to Lady Kat {{t2:Azaria Brown: }} in left field, the Lady Pojos managed 2 more singles and scored one run

in the top of the 4th.

Then, after holding Kennedale to 3 and out in

the bottom of the inning, Springtown scored 7 runs in the 5th helped

along by 2 errors, three singles and 2 walks.

 
4th Inning: Kennedale 10 – Springtown 8 …
 
Kennedale secured the win with 4 more runs in the bottom of 5th after {{t2:Valerie Velasquez: }} walked followed by Calhoun who reached on error (popup). Webb then reached on error (line drive CF) which allowed Velasquez and {{t2:Karley Vester: }} (courtesy runner) to score. Neifert singled followed by a Franks sacrifice put Webb across the plate for the third run. Then Howard reached on error off of a popup to center which allowed Neifert to score number 4.
 
5th Inning: Kennedale 14 – Springtown 8 …
 
In the 6th Kennedale put more fuel on the fire with three more runs after McElvany singled, Calhoun walked, Webb singled, McElvany scored on a tag up after at pop out by Neifert and the final two runs of the game after Franks doubled when Vester (courtesy runner) and Webb crossed the plate.
 
6th/7th Inning: Kennedale 17 – Springtown 8 …
 
Alexi Neifert racked up three RBIs on three hits including a double and 3 runs. Jamie Franks helped her game with 3 RBIs and a run on 2 hits including a double and a walk. Alyssa Bradberry had 2 RBIs, scored 2 runs and had 1 hit (double). Jenna Webb had 2 RBIs with 2 runs and 1 hit.
