We did it! We finished the 2020-2021 school year, a year none of us will ever forget! When we were planning for this year, we had no idea how it would turn out and all we could do was hope for the best. Well, the best is what we got as we were able to not only have school all year long, but also do it with many successes throughout the year.
I am very proud of our staff and what they were able to overcome in a very short period of time. I am also very proud of our students, coaches, and sponsors who continued to perform at a high level despite all the distractions this year presented to them. We will be graduating this year’s senior class Wednesday afternoon at 4 P.M. at Globe Life Field and our staff will complete the 2020-2021 school year on Thursday.
KHS will have summer school for grades 9-12 from June 1-24.
KJH will have summer school for grades 5-8 from June 2- 24.
EL and Bilingual Pre-K/Kindergarten students will be at Delaney from June 2-30 and also from July 12-23.
Jump Start camp will be at Patterson Elementary from July 12-22.
YMCA Summer Camp will be held at Patterson Elementary from June 7-July 29.
The Boy’s and Girl’s Club will be offering a free two-week program for our 5-8 graders at their site.
Information on these programs can be accessed by contacting the campus and through the district website.
Our summer sports camps will also be starting in June and going up until football and volleyball start back up. With the Governor’s order that was just released last week, we will be transitioning to status level green for all of our summer programs. This means masks will be completely optional for all students and staff.
We have started our community stakeholder meetings for facilities and development and the next one will be June 1 at 6 P.M. in the Media Center. This meeting will be led by Robert Gadbois of Owner Builders Resource who is helping our district with facility planning as we look at the impact the developments in both Kennedale and Arlington will have on our district. The next meeting is scheduled for June 22 at 6 P.M. in the KJH cafeteria. The purpose of these meetings is to develop a recommendation to take to the board concerning our campuses and our student distributions hopefully by the July meeting. I encourage you to participate in this process as we work toward the future of KISD.
I wish each of our students and their families a safe, fun, and relaxing summer. I also hope our staff enjoy some much-needed time off.
Have a great summer,
