When I have conversations with local residents they often ask ” What do you see as some of the most important items we have ahead of us for 2021 in Kennedale?” When you are seeking or holding public office the need and ability to look not just a few weeks or months down the road but the ability to look years ahead is vital. The results of decisions made by local government can often be so far down the road they are difficult to see or imagine. Seeking information on an issue and taking time to reflect on how that will effect a city 1 year, 5 years, or even 10 years in the future is something which takes time and discipline. I believe my time serving Kennedale in several positions including being Chairman of the Planning and Zoning Commission and serving 2 and 1/2 years on the council has given me training and opportunity to develop this skill.
As I take time to reflect on the future I see several key issues the next City Council must undertake. We have the upcoming bond issue through Tarrant County. These large bond opportunities only come available every 10-15 years and Kennedale needs a strong seat at the table to lobby for our share of these funds. We have multiple large and costly infrastructure needs, such as an above grade railroad crossing over New Hope Road, which will be virtually impossible for the city to fund on its own. We have the need to update our Police and Fire Departments with new equipment as well as updated facilities. These types of improvements are costly yet the benefits of them are immeasurable when the need for their use arises. The connection with Arlington for water is almost complete and now we must take time to closely examine our infrastructure and begin to make the vital improvements which are needed to preserve the water and sewer services Kennedale residents need and deserve. I have spent a great deal of time over the past 5 years learning how each of these issues can have a positive or negative impact to the city and because of this knowledge I believe I am in a position to not only be a part of the discussion on how to proceed with resolving these important issues but also have listened and heard how important these issues are to you. I would do my best to represent you on the council so the wishes and desires for the future of the city you have expressed to me can be represented as these decisions are being made. It is with this experience in mind and my desire to continue to serve the citizens I ask for your support and your vote as I seek election to Kennedale City Council Place 3.
