Kennedale basketball continuing one of their best season starts, ran into a wall at Decatur but bounced back with a big win over China Springs last week.
Tuesday night, the Cats will open district play against Hillsboro (12-4). The Wildcats will then get a brief break to enjoy Christmas later this week before coming back to play in another tournament in Bridgeport, December 27-28.
Games last week …
Decatur (L) 60-48. The Cats visited the Decatur Eagles (10-6) and the Eagles welcomed the Wildcats by kicking them out the door after a 12-point win. The Eagles jumped out to a 9-4 lead in Q1 and expanded that into a 16-9 lead. Kennedale did cut it to 4 points at 16-12 in Q2 before Decatur opened a 12-point lead just before the half. It didn’t improve after halftime as the Cats couldn’t cut into the Eagles’ lead, losing 60-68. The difference in the game seemed to be weak shooting from the floor and at the free throw line for the Cats.
- STATS (Kennedale/Decatur) – Rebounds 28/28; Assists 14/19; Steals 5/5; Blocks 3/2; FG% 31/50; 3PT% 38/35; FT% 58/80.
China Springs (W) 70-59. Kennedale entertained the China Springs Cougars (11-5) and won with a solid 11-point win. Wildcat Pablo Agosto-Vega (Jr) led the team effort with 20 points while Breylen Harris (Sr) contributed 16 points along with Landon Brooks (Jr).
Kennedale jumped out to a 7-0 lead in Q1. The Cats kept the 7-point edge at 26-19 late in the quarter. In Q2 the Cats increase the spread to 43-26. In the 3rd, the lead was 64-36 before the Cats finished the game at 70-59. The Cats were hot outside, hitting over 50% of their 3-point attempts while controlling the boards and all but killing all the hopes of the Cougars.
This win was a good win because it was against a strong team, one that had wins over other winning programs including 5A East View, Glen Rose, Maypearl, Little River Academy, and Alvarado.
- STATS (Kennedale/China Springs) – Rebounds 35/16; Assists 20/12; Steals 11/5; Blocks 3/5; FG% 59/42; 3PT% 53/35; FT% 75/92.
