Kennedale Lady Kats Basketball opened the 2014-15 season with a win over 5A Mansfield Legacy Monday night.
 
The Lady Kats won the 1st, 2nd and 3rd quarters against their larger neighbors from down the road 42-33 and held off a charge at the end to win 55-50. {{more}}
 
Kennedale senior Jasmyn Poe (Sr) led all scorers by popping in 22 points. She was followed on the Kennedale team by Lucy Benson (So) with 12, Kathryn Mosely (Sr) and Evie Whorley (So) with 8 each, Brenee Ellis (Sr) with 3 points and Daija Simmons (So) and Aysia Williams (Sr) with one apiece.
 
The Lady Kats, under new Head Coach Doug Watson, open the season ranked #21 in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.
 
Returning starter from last year?s team that were 20-11 and finished as a region semifinalists are Jasmyn Poe, Brenee Ellis and Daija Simmons. Returning varsity players are Kathyrn Mosely (Sr), Zippy Gutierrez (Sr) and Jasmine Alli (So).
 
Also listed on the varsity roster along with Lucy Benson (So) and Evie Whorley (So) are Payton Williams (So), Amanda Davis (Fr), Robbie Johnson (Fr) and Aysia Williams (Sr).
 
The Lady Kats are playing Mansfield High School tonight at Mansfield. Varsity plays at 5:30 p.m.
