LadyKat Playoffs: The wait is over and now it begins

Bone-weary and battle tested might just be a tad too dramatic but the seniors on the Kennedale Lady Kats soccer team have seen a lot of hard played games and a few tough losses. But, they have been part of teams that has made the transition from playing up against 5A* opponents to successfully competing in a league of their own. {{more:[read more]}}

And now as seniors, they have a chance to do what no other Kennedale team in any sport has done, win back to back state titles. It will not be easy.

Telegram‘s Shawn Smajstra put it this way ? ?Defending 4A state champion Kennedale (19-2-0) is everyone?s target.” But he added, “It?s an experienced squad that was battle tested early in the season before steamrolling through district play, outscoring opponents 73-2. The LadyKats only losses this season came to 6A programs Midlothian and Arlington Martin.?

Girls Soccer Playoffs Reg 1 & 3

The LadyKat Soccer seniors Abby Olmos, Kylie Deel, Mikala Harris, Claire Hamilton, Lauren Otts and Allie Thornton are four year veterans (with the exception of Harris who joined the team this year) that are part of a group of girls that put the Kennedale program firmly among the state soccer powers.

Last year in 2014-15, the LadyKats were 24-2-2 and 4A state champions.
 
In 2013-14, the LadyKats finished 20-6-1 and won their first outright district title playing in Class 5A* and then beat three upper division team in the playoffs before losing to Byron Nelson in a regional quarterfinal game. Defending state champions Byron Nelson made it to the final four but lost out in a state semifinal match. Kennedale was the only 4A* team that had made it to that round.
 
In 2013 the LadyKat soccer program was 16-3-1 and earned second place in district play. The LadyKats went two deep in the playoffs, losing to Arlington Heights in an area game.
 
Over the last four years Kennedale has had a record of 79-13-4. Certainly, these seniors were just part of those teams, but this year, they get to claim some of that glory on their own terms.

The LadyKats ended the regular season by completing a sweep of District 8-4A with wins Venus and Diamond Hill-Jarvis. This is Kennedale?s third straight district title.
 
Friday 3/11 vs Venus (W) 14-0 …
 
The LadyKats swept past the Venus Lady Bulldogs scoring 10 points in the first half. Nine different Kats scored led by Mikayla Harris (Sr) and Cara Hunt (Jr) with 3 apiece. Harris was selected as MaxPreps Player of the Game. Baylee Gow (Jr) scored first with an assist by Abby Olmos and then the flood gates opened.
 
For the game: #15 Mikayla Harris (Sr) scored 3 goals off of 3 SOG, #17 Lauren Otts (Sr) scored once with 1 SOG, #19 Eryka Mcintyre (Fr) scored twice with 2 SOG and had with 3 assist, #2 Bailey Crowley (So) scored 1 with 2 SOG, #20 Allie Thornton (Sr) scored 1 on 2 SOG with 1 assist, #3 Abby Olmos (Sr) scored 1 with 1 SOG and recorded 2 assist, #5 Baylee Gow (Jr) had 1 goal with 1 SOG and had 3 assist, #6 Emmy Hamilton (Jr) had 1 goal with 2 SOG and #8 Cara Hunt (Jr) scored three times on 3 SOG. #12 Megan Jakubisin had 1 shot on goal along with #14 Taylor Fox (Jr). #0 Sara Calzada (Jr) recorded 3 saves for the Lady Kats.
 
Monday 3/14 @ Diamond Hill-Jarvis (W) 9-0
 
Playing a spring break game, the Kennedale Lady Kats easily put away Diamond Hill-Jarvis (12-11-1) by a score of 9-0 and earning the LadyKats the district title and their14th shut-out of the season and the 6th in district play. Scoring 3 goals in the first 10 minutes of play the Kats went on to score end the half at 6-0 and then finished with 3 more in final minutes of play.

#20 Allie Thornton (Sr) led the team with 27 goals along with 12 asst. #3 Abby Olmos (Sr) had 19 goals with 13 assist. #8 Cara Hunt (Jr) scored 15 goals with 10 assist. #19 Eryka Mcintyre (Fr) had 14 goals with 11 assist. #5 Baylee Gow (Jr) had 10 goals with 11 assist. #2 Bailey Crowley (So) scored 6 goals with 1 assist. #10 Alondra Olmos (Jr) had 4 goals. #17 Lauren Otts (Sr) scored 4 goals with 2 assist. #6 Emmy Hamilton (Jr) had 2 goals along with 2 assist. #12 Megan Jakubisin (So) scored 2 goals. #16 Claire Hamilton (Sr) scored 1 goal and #14 Taylor Fox (Jr) had 1 goal and 2 assist. Also providing assist were #11 Daphne Hunt (So) with 2 assist, #4 Tori Mclean (So) and #1 Marisa Echtle (So) with 1 assist each.The LadyKats will travel to 5A Grapevine (14-5-3, 11-1) to play a playoff warm-up game on Monday with a game time of 6 p.m. Grapevine is the district champ of District 6-5A.

 
Playoff information …
 
The Kennedale LadyKats (19-2, 8-0) will play Dallas Hampton Uplift Prep @ Kennedale on Friday March 25 at 5:30 p.m. a 4th seed out of District 7-4A.
 
* In 2014-15 UIL reorganized classifications by adding Class 6A and moving up each class so that Kennedale which was in Class 3A was moved up with the rest of the schools in that classification to Class 4A, 4A schools were moved up 5A and 5A to 6A.
