Levelland hires former Wildcat assistant coach

Last week Curtis Lowery, who was the Assistant Head Coach at Glen Rose, was approved by the Levelland Board of Trustees as the new head coach and athletic director for the Lobos. {{more: Continue …}}
 
It was reported that there were over 70 applications for the job.
 
Curtis Lowery coached at Kennedale two years in 2007-08 and 2008-09 teaching science and coaching the line. He also coached the powerlifting team for the Wildcats. The team won back to back state powerlifting titles during those years.
 

Coach Lowery was the offensive coordinator at Snyder from 2014-2016 under James Polk, who had been offensive coordinator at Kennedale while Lowery was the line coach for the Wildcats.

 
Levelland is coming off a 10-4 season in football, losing out Abilene Wylie in the state quarterfinals. (Wylie went on to defeat Kennedale in the state semifinals the next week before losing out Carthage in the championship game).
 
Lowery who is a Texas Tech graduate and was an All Big 12 Offensive Lineman in 1998-99, also was an assistant coach at Stephenville.

This is the eighth former assistant football coach hired by Athletic Director Richard Barrett who has gone on to be a head coach in another school district.
