The Kennedale Lady Kats (17-11, 10-2) will play Benbrook (12-10, 7-3), the #3 seed from District 9/4A, tonight (Monday) at North Crowley HS at 7:30 pm in the bi-district round of the 2023 UIL 4A basketball tournament.

Benbrook finished in 3rd place behind first-place Dunbar (18-11, 12-0) and 2nd place Eastern Hills (11-7, 10-2). Young Women’s Leadership Academy of Fort Worth earned the 4th seed with a record of 13-11 and 6-6 in the district.

Top four in District 10/4A …

Kennedale (17-11, 10-2) finished in second place in District 10/4A behind district champion the Lady Cats from Godley (25-7, 11-1). Godley’s only district loss was to Kennedale. 3rd place went to Alvarado (22-10, 9-3) while 4th place went to Ferris (12-19, 6-6).

Kennedale is currently ranked #26 in Class 4A. Godley is #17. Alvarado is #30.

Regular season ends with a 66-39 win …

Last week the Lady Kats finished the season with a season-ending sweep of the Lady Mustangs of Life Waxahachie.

GAME STORY

Quarter One – It was a game during the first quarter with Life leading until the Kats tied it at tied 11-11 late in the quarter. It was #3 Reagan Jackson who provided last minutes heroics by being the player who tied the game and then gave Kennedale the lead at 14-11 with back-to-back 3-point conversions. Kennedale would maintain the lead for the rest of the game. #2 Peyton Landry for the Kats started strong in the game by scoring 8 points before Jackson finished the quarter with her 6.

Quarter 2 – It was all Lady Kats in Q2 as they put up 17 points to three for Life. Reagan Jackson scores the first 7 points for the Kats, finishing with 9 points while other Kats contributed points with #32 Morgan Applewhite 2, #2 Peyton Landry 2, and #13 Kenzie Jackson 2.

Quarter 3 – Life matched the Kats in Q3 with each scoring 16 but couldn’t dig into Kennedale’s lead. Other Kats scoring in the quarter for Kennedale were #3 Reagan Jackson 12, #32 Morgan Applewhite 2, and #2 Peyton Landry 2.

Quarter 4 – The final period began at 47-30 with the Kats then finished off the sweep of Life by outscoring the Mustangs 19 to 9 for the 26-point win at 66-39. Scoring in the final period for Kennedale were Reagan Jackson 5, #13 Kenzie Jackson 6, #2 Peyton Landry 2, and #20 Lexi Zamora 2. (Several unlisted Kennedale players also scored during the final period).

In the game, Kennedale hit 83% of their free throws, was at 46% from the field, and sank every third 3-point attempt while Life was at 50%, 28%, and 20% respectively.
