Small independent film producers are thriving and finding an audience across the country especially in the Dallas Fort Worth area. The Fort Worth Star Telegram said in a post August 29 by Cary Darling, (dfw.com)?that it?s in the ?subgenre of faith-based and family films that Dallas and Fort Worth may be poised to make their biggest mark. ?

One such film, My Son, was filmed on location in Burleson for $30,000. It is a production of Retta Vision and part of a media outreach of Retta Baptist Church of Burleson.

It was directed by Jarod O’Flaherty who recently released his WWII documentary, We Were There.

The following description was given about the plot of My Son
?
Cadon wasn’t going anywhere . . . until he met Jess. Now that Jess and her young son Austin are living with him, his life seems to have direction and purpose.

But when they lose custody of Austin under questionable circumstances, Cadon feels responsible. His hope of having a normal family is all but lost. Desperate to keep Jess, Cadon turns to his lifelong friend Bo for help to reclaim their son.

In the movie is a former KISD student Victoria Pearce. She is part of the eleven member cast and plays a supporting role. In a short video on the My Son website she describes her role.

Her mother and KISD teacher, Vicki Pearce, said that Victoria, who graduated in 2010 from KHS and was in the plays at J.A. Arthur and active in Theater at KJHS and KHS, plays the part of Shawna Meyers. ?We are very excited.?

The movie ?My Son? will premiere at the Burleson Premiere Theater on September 20. It has been a year and half project and was featured in a story by Jim Douglas on Channel 5 News several weeks ago.
