KHS CS/Science teams finish among the best in recent test of skills

Kennedale High School competed in a virtual meet in computer science and science last week and their teams were 4th and 13th among all the schools and 3rd against 4A schools. {{more: Continue … }}
 
The online contest attracted schools from around the state and from small Class 1A to large Class 6A. The number participating ranged from 58 schools and 375 contestants for computer science to 84 schools and 533 contestants in science.
 
Local and area schools included Arlington Martin HS, Mansfield HS, FTW Paschal, Dallas

Science/Engineering Magnet, Irving HS, Frisco Reedy, Stephenville HS, Sanger,

FTW Arlington Heights, Burleson, Ponder, FTW Dunbar, FTW Western Hills, Aledo, Godley,

Brock and Azle.

The KHS computer science team was composed of Carson Ham (Sr), Chris Chen (Jr) and Olivia Ham (So). The Kennedale Science team was composed of James Stratton (Jr), Carson Ham (Sr) and Leanne Blind (Sr).

Also competing for Kennedale were Jay Acosta (So), Joel

Cervantes (Fr), Caleb Hall (So), Brandon Isensee (Fr), Quincy Martin (Fr), Ban

Nguyen (Sr), Long Nguyen (Jr), Sam Horn (Fr), Raymond Salazar (Fr) and Anastasia

Zyuskina (Fr).

Computer Science results:

 

In overall rankings involving all schools, the Wildcat computer science team was 4th beating out all but one 6A teams (11) and all of the 5A teams (15) participating.

 

In Class 4A, Kennedale finished 3rd behind Needville and Abilene Wylie in computer science.

 

In rankings from all schools on individual scores Carson Ham was in 12th place followed by Chris Chen in 5th and Olivia Ham in at 23rd out of 374 contestants.

 
In Class 4A, Carson Ham (Sr) was 6th, Chris Chen (Jr) 8th, Olivia Ham (So) 10th, Long Nguyen (Jr) 17th, Brandon Isensee (Fr) 29th, Sam Horn (Fr) 39th, Caleb Hall (So) 40th, Anastasia Zyuskina (Fr) 43rd and Raymond Salazar (Fr) 44th.
 
Science Results:
 
In the science portion. there were 84 teams participating also ranging from 1A to 6A.
 
In Class 4A, Kennedale?s team finished in 3rd place behind La Feria HS and Burkburnett HS. Rounding out the top Ten in 4A were Glen Rose, Salado, Abilene Wylie, Center, Sealy, Needville and Stephenville.
 
In overall results, the Kennedale Science team finished in 13th place out of the 84 teams, finishing ahead of all but three 5A teams and would have been in 7th place among 6A teams.

Kennedale had 5 students place in the top 20% out of the 533 students on all levels. James Stratton (Jr) finished 5th in Class 4A and 35th overall followed by Carson Ham (Sr) 10th (50), Leanne Blind (Sr) 22nd (98), Olivia Ham (So) 27th (109). Finishing in the top third were Jay Acosta (So) 42nd (151) and Ban Nguyen (Sr) 42nd (151) and Quincy Martin (Fr) 50th (170). Also scoring Joel Cervantes (Fr) 118th.

James Stratton (Jr) again led Kennedale finishing 2nd (11) place. He was followed by Carson Ham (Sr) 4th (24), Olivia Ham (So) 9th (47), Quincy Martin (Fr) 15th (60), Ban Nguyen (Sr) 24th (99), Jay Acosta (So) 28th (111), Leanne Blind (Sr) 28th (110) and Joel Cervantes (Fr) 115th.

Kennedale had six student finished in the top half with four finishing in the top 12%. Carson Ham (Sr) came in at 12th (51), followed by Leanne Blind (Sr) 13th (54), James Stratton (Jr) 17th (62), Ban Nguyen (Sr) 40th (141), Olivia Ham (So) 45th (151) and Jay Acosta (So) 70th (255) Quincy Martin (Fr) 103rd and Joel Cervantes (Fr) 103rd .

Of 533 participants, Kennedale had six in the top half of all students. Jay Acosta (So) was 24 in Class 4A (97), James Stratton (Jr) 35 (142), Ban Nguyen (Sr) 57 (223), Leanne Blind (Sr) 62 (238), Joel Cervantes (Fr) 62 (238), Olivia Ham (So) 62 (238), Quincy Martin (Fr) 94, Carson Ham (Sr) 94.
