The Kennedale Lady Kats are planning to start their UIL Girls Softball playoff run tonight with the first game of a 3-game series with the Fort Worth Diamond Hill-Jarvis Eagles set for 7 pm at home on the Lady Kat Softball Field at Kennedale High School. Last year the Kats went three deep into the playoffs.

The Eagles are coming off of a 21-18 win over 4th place Dunbar (8-12, 4-7) but that was preceded by a loss to 2nd place Western Hills 16-8, a win over 6th place Eastern Hills 22-7 and a loss to Benbrook 12-5. For the season, Diamond Hill has averaged 10.8 runs a game and 9.8 hits with a .600 winning record in the district and a .409 winning percentage for the season.

Kennedale is coming off a loss to the district leader, Godley 11-7, a win over 3rd place Venus 8-7, a loss to 4th place Alvarado 7-3, and a win over 6th place Life Waxahachie 11-1. For the season, the Lady Kats are averaging 8.3 runs a game and 8.3 hits with a .700 win record in the district and an overall .616 winning percentage for the season.

Last Friday, the visiting Lady Kats from Kennedale had an impressive early start on the #2 state-ranked Godley Wildcat softball team (TGCA) in the final match-up of the season between the two top teams in District 10/4A.

In the first two innings, Kennedale took a 5-1 lead. In the third, the Lady Kats added another run to stretch the lead to 6-1. But Godley finally begin to stir with the urging of the hometown crowd and scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 3rd and topped that with 4 in the 4th to get their first lead of the game at 7-6.

Kennedale went two consecutive innings without a run (4th and 5th) but managed a single run in the top of the 6th to tie the game at 7 all. It was short-lived as Godley responded when they banged 4 runs across in the bottom of the inning and then held Kennedale scoreless in the 7th to take the win 11-7.

For the game:

  • Godley had 11 runs on 8 hits, 7 RBIs, and 5 walks with 1 strikeout.
  • Kennedale had 7 runs on 8 hits, 7 RBIs, one walk and 6 strikeouts.
  • Playing big for Kennedale was Cadence Verona who had a home run and two doubles. Kayla Williamson and Ella Loker each added a double while Williamson also added a single along with Elli Zamora and Thi Pho.
