The regular season is winding down for UIL basketball and the postseason is set to begin.

Wildcat Basketball …

Tuesday night the Kennedale Wildcats, 24-6, secured the 2nd seed with a 64-56 win over one of their immediate competitor, Irving Ranchview.

It was not a sure thing for the Wildcats, who are ranked #18 in Class 4A by MaxPreps. Kennedale led by 5 after the first period 18-13. Ranchview didn’t fold in the 2nd as the 1st half ended 32-28. The Wolves stepped up their game in the 3rd, outplaying the Cats to take a 51-46 lead.

In the 4th, it was all Cats, as the Wolves went cold under Kennedale’s defensive pressure, scoring only 5 points while the Wildcats put up 18 to win the game going away 64-56.

Per MaxPreps, the Ranchview Wolves fall to 11-8 and 4-5 in district play. Kennedale is 6-2 in the district with 3rd place Summit International (12-7, 4-4) coming up this Friday night in another home game in the Wildcat Den at Kennedale High School.

Game time is set for 7:30 pm. It will be Senior Night for the Wildcats.

Seniors honors Friday night will be Hunter Limbaugh, Christian Whitaker, Jonathan Venegas, Rishaun Gipson and Dallas Dryden.

For the Ranchview, Brandon Brooks had the hot hand for the Wildcats pumping in 18 points. Austin Pickett along with Breylen Harris contributed 12 each followed by Tyler Choice and Christion Whitaker with 7 each, Tristan Lewis 6, and Jordan Miller 2.

Lady Kat Basketball …

The Kennedale Lady Kats (12-6 and undefeated in district) are currently ranked #8 for TABC and #16 in Class 4A for MaxPreps.

The Lady Kats will begin the playoffs this coming week against the 4th seed out of District 9/4A. Currently, Melissa (16-17) and Celina (11-16) are tied at 6-6 for fourth place in that district.
