Wildcats tag Hornets 77-52 in non-conference Saturday win

Saturday afternoon, the Kennedale Wildcats added to their overall 2021-22 record with a win over the Gatesville Hornets.

It was a break in the midst of district competition for the Wildcats, as they filled in their schedule with a trip south towards Temple for the unusual Saturday game.  It worked out well for the Cats.

The first quarter was a close game as both teams measured the other for strengths and weaknesses. It ended with the Cats up by just one point, 17-16.  The second quarter went Kennedale’s way but just so with a plus 5 margin. The first half ended with the Wildcats up five with a score of 29 -24.

The second half was Kennedale’s, as they took control of the game. Kennedale’s outscored Gatesville by 10 and took over the game completely with another 10+ margin in the final quarter, This gave the Cats the game with the final score of 77-52.

Kennedale led in all positive stat categories from rebounds, steals, points per possession, and on out.

Kennedale players stats – Austin Pickett 5 points, 2 steals, 5 assist; Hunter Limbaugh 9 pts, (all 3 pointers); Jordan Miller 10 pts, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 deflection, 1 steal; Breylen Harris 7 pts, 6 rebounds, 1 steal; Tristan Lewis 9 pts, 3 rebounds, 3 assist, 3 steals; Tyler Choice 10 pts, 2 rebounds, 2 assist, 1 deflection, 1 steal; Jonathan Venegas 2 pts; Christion Whitaker 11 pts, 9 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 deflections, 1 steal; Rishaun Gibson 9 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals.

The Kennedale Wildcats are now 22-6 overall and 4-2 in District 10/4A.

The Wildcats return to district play tonight, Tuesday, February 1, playing North Hills Academy at home in the Wildcat Den at KHS.  Varsity plays at 8 p.m.

Kennedale has a solid lock on second place in District 10/4A behind #1 Oak Cliff Faith Family, the #1 team in all of Class 4A.

The Kennedale Wildcats are currently ranked #22 in Texas for Class 4A by MaxPreps.
