The Wildcats (4-2, 1-0) walked away in their first encounter with the Springtown Porcupines with some pricks but a decisive victory in the opening of district play for both teams Friday night at Wildcat Stadium. The running game was a game winner with 429 yards with another 45 yards added through the air. Juwan Washington had another 200-plus game with 229 yards just shy of 10 yards per carry. But it was the 3 interceptions by linebacker, Brett Wade (Sr), in the second half that had the crowd talking.

Wade, a Texas A&M commitment, picked up 1 touchdown and 112 yards with his three interceptions. When asked about the three interceptions, all in the third quarter, he said “Actually that is 3 interceptions for my whole career at Kennedale High School. {{more}} That makes me very proud, one for each year and I glad to have got caught up.? He doesn’t normally play the middle position but he said that he “liked it and hope to play there again.

It was a game of halves. For the Wildcats, the first half was one of those ?uh-o? times when the halftime score was 17-14 Springtown and the momentum seemed to favor the Porcupines. But Kennedale, traditionally a strong 2nd half team, totally dominated the game thereafter. Sparked by Wade?s interceptions and a clock eating running game, the Cats scored 34 unanswered points to shut out the visiting Porcupines in the last half. Quarterback Zac Michener got in on the scoring with two long runs of 15 and 50 yards and 2 touchdowns. When asked what happened at halftime, Coach Barrett said, “We just asked the boys what was going on and made some changes and told the boys”. Springtown ended the game with 295 yards in total offense with 202 yards of that by passing.

Kennedale?s next game will be Homecoming next Friday, October 19 at Wildcat Stadium vs Diamond Hill ? Jarvis beginning at 7:30 pm.
