OPEN HEAVENS

Deuteronomy 28:12 (NKJV)
“The LORD will open to you His good treasure, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season, and to bless all the work of your hand. You shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow.

The blessing pronounced in the text for today is available for you and I. God is still blessing His children. We need to tap into the treasury of His Word to reclaim what may seem lost in our lives.

Open Heavens can be described as the unveiling of all that heaven is to earth. It is a manifestation or revelation of God’s own presence and glory. Another description is when the windows and doors of heaven are flung open for the outpour of heavenly blessings to earth. Some scenarios that better describes these experiences are when signs and wonders, miracles and healings, revelations and unusual manifestations of power occur as in Genesis 28:10-22; Isaiah 1:1-13; Matthew 3:16-17; Acts 7:54-55; 9:5-6; 10:1-48 etc.

These varying degrees of events are what to expect when the heavens open to an individual. It is an unprecedented experience of divine favor. The kind that no man can give but God alone. You and I need such favor in our lives. So, I pray that the heavens be open to you and I in Jesus name.

Please note that open heavens are contingent upon God’s sovereign prerogative actions. He alone decides who to open to and when to open as in the examples given above. However, there were instances as recorded in scriptures that human actions can invoke his favor towards us, and such instances are:

  1. Living a lifestyle of obedience – the blessings pronounced in Deuteronomy 28 are contingent on obedience to God’s instructions.
  2. Tithing – God challenged his children to tithe and gave his assurance to open the heavens and pour out blessings that will overflow (Malachi 3: 10).
  3. Fervent Prayer – Elijah prayed for the heavens to open and God answered – 1 Kings 18.
  4. Fasting – Daniel fasted and received revelation about events to come (Daniel 9 – 12).

Like these ones cited above, we also can experience open heavens because God wants to open His heavens to us. Again, may the heavens be open to you and your household as it did to Cornelius in Acts 10.

Lastly, there is a unique event to happen that all will witness. This is when the heavens shall open upon the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. Apostle Paul describes it as descending from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God (2 Thessalonians 4: 17). In like manner, Apostle John penned in Revelation 4 how God invited him to receive revelations of the end-time events. In Revelation 1:7, John cautions saying, “Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him…”; and in chapter 22: 7, Jesus declares – “Behold, I am coming quickly…!” In verse 12, Jesus said – “And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work.”

The question is if we are ready for heaven to open to us for the Son of God to appear. The only way to be ready is to accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. To believe in Him as the Son of God, who died for ours sins and rose up on the third day. Ask Jesus into your heart to rule and reign. He stands at the door and is waiting. Then, you shall begin a relationship that is without end. God bless you!
