Intercessory Prayer – A tool to take territories

Do you know that there are spiritual and physical powers that hold people in captivity, and may be in the territory where you reside? Territorial spirits have a stubborn power that resides inside persons living in houses, and on streets. They may be where you are currently living, and not know it until they manifest through the actions of the person they reside in. These spirits are demons. They are fallen angels cast out of heaven into the earth, and roaming around for a place to reside. Please read Mark 5:1-20 and Luke 8:26-39 to learn more.
As real as they are, God has given us dominion over such powers. Psalm 115: 16 says, “The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord’s: but the earth hath he given to the children of men.” God has given the earth to us to rule and reign over. However, these spirits cast out of heaven are a threat to our peaceful existence; and we must subdue them. Thus, we must warfare to fight and overcome. Yes, we must confront the enemies of our peace and existence. We must take over our territories.
No doubt, we must be both confrontational and defensive when engaging an opponent. How we do that and the weapons we use are as equally important as knowing the type of enemy you are engaging. 2 Corinthians 10:4,5 tells us, “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ”. This means we are not to engage nor react to what we see appear in its physical manifestations but be spiritually discerning to engage the spiritual power behind the manifestations. Ignorance is the cause of the much harm done to people. Parents have spanked and punished children ignorantly. Couples breakup ignorantly, and the many crimes we see in our communities are influenced by demons.
Believably, we cannot defeat crime with the approaches often used. We need to be more discerning to know that many of these people killed were not themselves but were under either a demonic or substance influence. Thus, we need to pray for our police officers, judiciary system, etc. These individuals pledge to protect us but if they lack discernment, they can hurt us.
A pastor friend said, “If the devil cannot deceive you, he cannot defeat you.” The only tactic of the devil and demonic spirits is to deceive to defeat you. Think about it, are many not deceived about what is true today? Paul in his letter to the church in Ephesus tells us more, and how to be discerning and war (Please read Ephesians 6:10-18).
Lastly, know that God will never ask us to do what we are not equipped to do. He is a Warrior, and the Spirit of The Warrior dwells in His children. Thus, warring is a necessity to overcome the evils of this world. Let us be prayerful. Let us be intentional to pray for our legislators, city officials, police officers, schoolteachers, etc. It is our civic and spiritual duty to pray for the peace of our cities. Let us not pray amiss but be spiritually discerning in this quest. God bless you as you chose to be part of many who took up this noble assignment. Let us drive out the demons living in our cities. We have guaranteed victory through the name Jesus Christ, and the power of His Holy Spirit!
Join us this Sunday as we pray for our cities, and everyone.
