A Church with Deep Roots and Open Arms:
First United Methodist Church of Kennedale
For more than a century, First United Methodist Church of Kennedale has been a steady presence in the heart of our town. Established at its current location in 1903, the church at 229 W. 4th Street stands as a testament to faith, service, and community—values that continue to guide its mission today.
Though small in size, Kennedale FUMC is truly mighty in spirit. Community outreach is at the very heart of the church’s ministry, lived out daily through hands-on service and neighborly care. One shining example is The Mission Store, open Wednesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., offering affordable items while supporting ministry efforts. In addition, the FUMC Food Pantry serves local families in need on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Hospitality is another cornerstone of this church family. Every Wednesday evening at 6:00 p.m., the doors of Dover Hall (208 Municipal Dr.) open wide for a FREE Community Dinner, welcoming anyone who would like to share a meal and fellowship—no strings attached, just good food and friendly faces.
Supporting the wider community doesn’t stop there. On every 4th Monday, the church hosts a lively Community Quarter Auction, raising funds for area nonprofits and bringing neighbors together for fun, food, fellowship, and a great cause.
The guiding scripture from the Book of James—“Faith without works is dead”—is not just words on a page at Kennedale FUMC. It is a living, breathing call to action. As the congregation often says, “God continues to bless us, so that we may bless others.” Their mission statement captures this spirit beautifully:
“We are missionaries in our own backyards, the Spirit of God in the heart of Kennedale.”
If you are looking for a place to serve, a place to belong, or simply a place where you will be welcomed with open arms, you’ll find it here. Sunday School begins at 10:00 a.m., followed by Worship at 11:00 a.m. Service is live streamed via our Facebook page every Sunday.
FUMC Kennedale is led by the church’s beloved and long-time pastor, Reverend Dr. Nelda Barrett Murraine, whose faithful leadership, quarterly Bible Studies and weekly reflection times online, continues to guide and inspire the congregation.
First United Methodist Church of Kennedale invites you to come as you are, share in community, and discover a church home rooted in faith, love, and service.
