The Kennedale Lady Kats (1-1) won big against Frisco (0-3) last Friday but ended on the wrong side of Argyle (2-0) in early season play.
Friday night the rebuilding Lady Kats overwhelmed Frisco High (9-4A) by a score of 73-43 in the opening round of the 2013-14 basketball season. {{more}}It turned out to be more of a warm-up match and not a test of the Lady Kats as they adjust to new players and new coaches.
The Kats jumped off to a 13 point lead in the first quarter and never looked back allowing Frisco only 13 points in the first half while putting up 33. McKinley Bostad (Sr) was top scorer for Kennedale with 21 points followed by new transfer student Sadie Mahnesmith (Sr) with 18 points. Post player, Nia Watson (Sr), put up 14 with Jasmyn Poe (Jr) adding another 10 points. Kathryn Mosely (Jr) and Anna Llmas (So), each had 4 points for the game. Freshman Daija Simmons put up two. As a team the, the Lady Kat only shot 31% from the floor, but, for this game it was not a concern.
Tuesday night?s 55-35 loss to Argyle presented the other side of women?s basketball in Texas. Argyle, ranked # 10 in 3A basketball, was dominating in the game of high profile athletic programs. It was a tough loss for the Lady Kats who were last year?s state runner-ups. But it did show them what they were going to have to do and the hard work it would take to be a player in the top 10 again.
The first minutes of the game were back and forth and the first quarter ended with the visiting Lady Eagles up only by five, 10-5. But Argyles? experience and consistency proved too much for Kennedale with Argyle moving out to a 26-10 lead by halftime and control of the game. Kennedale?s Bostad (Sr) led all scorers with 17 points. Also for Kennedale, Poe (Jr) had 9, Mahnesmith (Sr) had 4, Smith (Sr) had 2 along with Simmons (Fr).
Next up for the Lady Kats is Dallas Lincoln, another home game this Friday night with the varsity game starting at 6:30 p.m. The Dallas Lincoln Lady Tigers (11-4A) comes in with a record of 1-2 after losing a close one to Lewisville Tuesday night (61-59) and a one point loss to Richardson Buckner (42-41) last Friday.
