Kennedale High School?s newest and largest class is Adventures in Outdoor Education. The class counts as a physical education (PE) class or as an elective.
The class focuses on outdoor recreation activities including archery, fishing, GPS usage, camping fundamentals, {{more}}dutch oven cooking, games of badminton, horseshoes and others. Students will learn about hunter and boating safety and will be able to qualify for Texas certification cards in those areas.The overall goal is to introduce students to lifelong outdoor skills.
Kennedale High School teamed up with the Dallas Ecological Foundation, Texas Parks and Wildlife, and Explore Bowhunting to provide the curriculum geared towards introducing students to outdoor activities.
The program has received a $1,500 grant from the Dallas Ecological Foundation to purchase equipment and a $2,000 Explore Bowhunting kit from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
The teacher and the originator of the class is Daniel Wilcox.
Mr. Wilcox started an outdoor education club in 2012 at the high school which along with a community service requirement, club members can participate in a fishing tournament, skeet shooting and other field trip opportunities. Club activities are after school events.
Winchester Upright Gun Safe going to the highest bid
Currently the Kennedale HS Outdoor Education Club is
conducting a silent auction for a Winchester Tradition 19 safe. All proceeds from the silent auction go
directly to the Outdoor Education classes to purchase more start up equipment
in the new program.
Each week, at every home football game, a table will be setup under the home bleachers to accept sealed bids on the safe.
The current high bid now stands at $850. The next bid day is
Oct. 10th at the first district home football game against Springtown.
