CTE teacher Chriss Burke was more than just a little excited. He was telling everyone with in talking distance about the students enrolled in his Health Science classes. {{more: continue …}}

The seven, all seniors, are enrolled in his Practicum in Health Science 2. The actual exam and test prep were done off campus. But, as Mr. Burke tweeted out, all seven passed ?making it the first class with a 100% pass rate.?

To become a certified nursing assistant, each of the students had to take the competency examination, for the State of Texas. The state competency exam includes both a written examination and a skills evaluation. The purpose of the state exam is to make sure that the applicant understands and can safely perform in the role of an entry-level nurse assistant. Once they passed and have reached the age of 18 they are listed on the state?s Nurse Aide Registry.

A CNA is able to provide quality care for residents in long-term care facilities such as nursing homes. Nurse assistants may also find positions in home health, hospice care, hospitals and other health care settings.

However, the KHS students see this as just a stepping stone to a more involved medical career rather it be a register nurse, physician, physician assistant, medical researcher, pharmacy or medical technology. All are planning to go to college.

In the meantime, it does give them a way of supporting themselves if they need additional income while working to their ultimate goal.

This means it is fairly easy to find a job as a CNA, but many who start out in this career do not stay in it for life. The demand for CNAs is high, especially among those institutions that provide continuing care and assisted living for the elderly. Many health care facilities recognize the important role that a qualified and compassionate CNA can play in their quality of care offered.?
