In 2016, in its first year of competitive shooting, the KHS Archery Team placed 9th. This year the KHS Archers, composed of both male and female members, placed 11th in state competition.

There are no divisions in competition that divided schools by enrollment. Teams from small 1A schools compete with teams from super large schools such as Allen High School in Class 6A. Kennedale has held practice and real competition matches against Arlington Martin.

Next year, Kennedale will host its very own tournament.

Background …

The ACE Archery program at Kennedale High School is an unfunded extracurricular activity at the high school that allows students to learn about archery, to develop shooting skills and to have opportunities to compete with others schools in the area and on a statewide basis.

The student archers practice after school or during lunch periods. There is not a class offered just for archery.

The team?s high school sponsor is Danny Wilcox, who also sponsors the Kennedale High School Bass Fishing Team. Mr. Wilcox teaches biology and outdoor education at the high school. This past year he was selected as the Outstanding Teacher of the Year by the Outdoors Tomorrow Foundation.

Initial funding and support for the program has come through Kennedale?s ACE program, a federal grant program administered through TEA. Sustaining funds are by private donations and corporate supporters.
