A straighten & wider roadway lined with sidewalks will connect Kennedale to Arlington

The final small bit of roadway to be rebuilt on Sublett Road that connects Arlington to Kennedale, is finally on the calendar, according to Kennedale Mayor Brian Johnson.? The City of Arlington has set the project for the spring of 2021, a little less than year and a half away. {{more: continue …}}

This .03 mile stretch of road redo was listed as a ?high priority? in the 2018 bond elections for Arlington and now has a place in the line of projects to do. Johnson said the projected cost would be $10,000,000 with the bulk of the cost by Arlington from the bond money while Tarrant County, the City of Kennedale and the Kennedale Independent School District will also contribute.

The redo from Joplin Road to the city limits of Kennedale will include four traffic lanes that will eliminate the existing curve, add curb and gutters, a new bridge over Kee Branch with bike lanes, landscaping and connecting sidewalks that will keep school children out of the street.?

In the amount in the original Arlington bond proposal was $14,375,000 but some of that money was obligated for work done earlier on the road in front of the new Kroger.?

School district donates land ?

The KISD?s contribution comes with a donation of the land and right of way for the new straighter portion of the roadway. KISD has owned the undeveloped land that is along the eastside of Kee Branch and north of Sublett Road for a number of years. KISD will be contributing just a small part of the total acreage it owns.?

The City of Kennedale?s cost will come with the final connection of the two roads at the city limits of both cities.

A way around construction delays …?

Besides eliminated the curve, the new route will allow less disruption to the current traffic flow. The current roadway will be maintained until the final connection is made. This will mean a lot to the current residents in the area, especially for those who live in the Steeplechase additions.
