Convergence of winter and spring brings plenty of high school field and court action

It is that time of year where a sports nut could go nutty. It is the time when winter meets spring and all sorts of activity is happening on different playing surfaces at Kennedale High School. {{more}}
 
Basketball is in its third season, the playoffs. Soccer has begun its second season with district play. Softball is kicking off its preseason this week with baseball close behind. Track is in the running beginning next week. Not to mention that spring tennis and golf are in season.
 
Soccer …
 
Tonight, February 16, the #1 state ranked and defending state champion, Kennedale LadyKats soccer team (12-2, 0-0) will start district play at home against Midlothian Heritage (7-6-1, 1-0) with varsity play at 7:30p.m. at Kennedale Wildcat Stadium. It is the first home game since early January. Kennedale is also defending their district title. Midlothian is playing their first season of soccer and coming off a 10-0 win over anther district opponent Venus.
 
Friday night, February 19, the Kennedale Wildcat boys soccer team , 0-1 in district play, will be playing Alvarado, 0-1 in district play, in a home at 6 p.m. The LadyKats will also be playing Avarado at home on Friday with the game time set for 4:30 p.m.
 
Basketball …
 
The #13 Kennedale Lady Kats (24-11, 9-1) will face off against #7 Abilene Wylie (26-5, 7-1) at place, time and date TBA
 
The Kennedale Wildcats (21-12, 8-1) will end their regular season tonight travelling to Venus (16-16, 6-3) with the varsity game set for 8 p.m. As it stands, Kennedale and Midlothian are both tied for first. If both teams win tonight they will be co-champions of District 7-4A and a game will have to be play Friday (?) for 1st and 2nd seed in the state playoffs which start next week. Midlothian (22-5, 8-1) plays Godley (5-20, 3-6) tonight.
 
Softball …
 
The Lady Kats softball team will be kicking off its season this evening against 5A Joshua at home beginning at 6 p.m. Last year the Laky Kats finished tied for 5th in 4A with a record of 23-4 and were district co-champions and a Region 1 finalist. This year the Kats are in a tie for 10th place in the Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA) pre-season poll.
 
Baseball …
 
The Kennedale Baseball season is set to start play next week on Thursday in the North Texas Tournament of Champions when Kennedale plays 5A Trimble Tech. The Wildcats were 14-10-1, 9-3 last year with a 2nd place district finish and made their 20th appearance in the state playoffs, losing out to Abilene Wylie in the area play.
 
Track …
 
The boys will start their season in a meet at Arlington Sequin on a week from Friday on February 26. The Wildcat Girls and Boys Track teams are in Austin every year winning individual track titles. Two years ago, the boys program brought home Kennedale’s second state title.
