Council Election Saturday

Yogi Berra once said, ?When you come to a fork in the road, take it!?

Our city comes to a fork in the road this Saturday, as we choose how to vote for city leadership. {{more: CONTINUE …}}The Council election appears too close to call and if your property value and quality of life matters to you, this could be your most important vote ever. To not vote could be costly.

The prosperity Kennedale is experiencing has not happened by accident. Many people involved in volunteer service have invested years in getting us here. Voters can keep Kennedale on track with prosperity and good development, by re-electing Dr. Mike Walker and Dr. Charles Overstreet, or we can hand the keys over to a pack of divisive candidates running a deceitful smear campaign. That crew is responsible for the worst division in the history of Kennedale. Their threat to shut down good development and positive future growth would set us back years. Their obvious misunderstanding of the workings of a municipal budget and fund management is dangerous. We can continue in successful development, or we can allow these people with their special interest campaign contributors and racetracks and salvage yards to control our city?s future and force us backwards.

Everyone wants lower utility bills, and our City Council wants fiscally responsible ways to accomplish that. The opposition claims they would lower water bills, but they have no viable plan. When the Chamber sponsored a public forum for all candidates to share their plans and views, the opposition candidates hid from public view. To lower water rates, it appears they would raid other funds, such as police and fire personnel, or let streets and infrastructure deteriorate to artificially lower rates. That kind of irresponsible approach cannot last without sacrifices. Leadership sometimes must make tough decisions and we must have a durable and responsible plan within a balanced budget. It?s the law.

People may argue the methods of management, or how they might do things differently, but fiscal responsibility is the law. Three independent audits and a recently upgraded bond rating prove the fiscally sound position the city is in.

Kennedale has seen the best business, neighborhood, road, and park space development ever in the last few years. The results of our leadership are evident all around town. New businesses at the north entrance, Kennedale Town Center, and various other locations are paying more taxes than ever in Kennedale?s history. New houses in the south sector will share our hard costs by increasing our tax base a conservatively estimated $100 million dollars while attracting even more new businesses, jobs, and restaurants.

Do we dare risk turning the keys over to the negative crew that has never been willing to serve the public in any way? Should we allow them to stop the good developments? Those community organizers have proven they are not team players and they don?t represent responsible stewardship.

We can continue a successful path through the work of honorable, respectable, servant leadership with Mike Walker and Charles Overstreet, or we can risk the hidden agenda of those candidates whose campaign is largely financed by special interests. Special interests who don’t live in Kennedale nor care about your quality of life or your property values.

The opposition has a lot of people fired up. We must not risk letting them take our future on Saturday. Many team players have been engaged in the visioning and planning processes leading to our successes. The volunteer servants on our various boards and commissions and the teams of people who have been actively engaged in Kennedale?s vision overwhelmingly support Charles Overstreet and Mike Walker. The endorsements are too numerous to list here.

We?re at a fork in the road and we have a choice between respected, responsible leaders or giving it up to a campaign of negativity.

Let?s go forward, help our future by getting out to re-elect Dr. Mike Walker and Dr. Charles Overstreet!
