Ever wonder what kind of annual training teachers receive – you might be surprised

Every professional and non/professional deals with on the job training or professional development sessions in their chosen occupations.? Teachers are no different. {{more: continue …}}

Besides getting ready for the new year by setting up their classrooms, developing daily, weekly and semester lesson plans and coordinating plans with other teachers; teachers across the state will be attending hours of training sessions and logging online for again more professional development sessions this year.?

Some of the training is developed locally. Other training is provided by staff who have been send to off-site locations to receive specialized training in a particular program or subject and then return to share with local staff.

Another part of teacher inservice training is provided online. For 2018-19, the State of Texas requires that public schools provide 13 mandatory trainings/professional development sessions. Most, if not all are online.

The required trainings are established and defined, by law, in Texas Educational, Administrative, or Health Code include the following:
?
1. American for Disabilities Act (ADA) Compliance for Online Content
?
2. Bloodborne Pathogens (infectious microorganisms in human blood that can cause disease in humans)
?
3. Bullying Prevention
?
4. Child Abuse & Maltreatment
?
5. Copyright laws
?
6. Teen Dating Violence & Abuse
?
7. FERPA: Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act
?
8. Internet Safety
?
9. Section 504 (an anti-discrimination, civil rights statute that requires the needs of students with disabilities to be met as adequately as the needs of the non-disabled are met).

10. Sexual Harassment
?
11. Suicide Prevention
?
12. Texas Educator’s Code of Ethics
?
13. Food Allergy Awareness?
?
These are the required on-going training but do not represent all of the training that teachers have or will be going through this year. And, then there is the grading ….
