Initially, Kennedale was informed by the Tarrant County Health Department this past week that it may have its first case of Zika. However, the suspected patient later tested negative. {{more:[Read more]}}Kennedale had been given the all-clear but not in terms of infected mosquitos with two positives this season.
The Kennedale area has several mosquito traps that are monitored by Tarrant County Public Health Department. Two have had a positive trap sample. One, that is located off of Arthur Drive in Kennedale, had a positive on June 8 but has been clear in 4 subsequent weekly visits. Another monitored trap on North Little School Road near Woodland Court had a positive on June 15 but has negative results in the past three weeks.
The County Health Department works with and notifies the City of Kennedale whenever there is a positive in a mosquito trap and if there is a positive human case. Tarrant County actively monitors 150 traps including all cities and unincorporated areas.
Other locations in the area that have a monitored trap: North Road near W 3rd St; South Dick Price Road near Gail Drive; Kennedale New Hope and Hudson Village Creek Road; US287 near Stagetrail Drive in Arlington; and, Eden Road in Arlington near Tierra Verde Golf Club. Three traps of these traps are in the Kennedale city limits and all of these are in the Kennedale School District boundaries.You can see an interactive map that show locations and test results for various locations in Tarrant County at County Interactive MappingTool.
All told this season (2016), Kennedale has had two positive
samples and Arlington has had 16 (none in the immediate area). Fort Worth has
had 22 positive samples.
Tarrant County advises that everyone needs to work to
eliminate breeding sites around their homes, use repellent and dress
appropriately if they are outdoors.
