The Gilmer City Council on Tuesday night named Greg Hutson as city manager, effective Jan. 1.
Hutson, 57, was executive director of the Kennedale Chamber of Commerce from 2010 to 2012 {{more:Read more …}}, then executive director of the Cultural District Alliance in Fort Worth from 2012 to 2013.
Before his hiring at Gilmer, he was city manager of Sansom Park. Gilmer is a small town, population of 5,114 located in East Texas, northwest of Longview.
Hutson was chosen from 57 applicants, five of whom were interviewed by the council in recent weeks, to succeed retiring City Manager Jeff Ellington.
Born in Fort Worth, Hutson grew up in Peaster (near Weatherford), and graduated from Arlington Heights High School in Fort Worth. He attended the University of Texas at Arlington, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting in 1995 and a Master of Public Administration degree in 2011.
