Athens ? Larkin, Rickie Joe passed away at the age of 63 on May 21, 2014 in Azle, Texas. Rick was born in Gorman, TX on September 8, 1950 to Alton ?Pete? and Annie Larkin. {{more}}Having grown up wanting to be a pilot, Rick joined the Army in 1976 and flew medical helicopters until 1979, when he was honorably discharged from service and moved back to Texas. He met his wife Yolanda while the two worked at the Federal Records Building in Fort Worth. They fell in love and were married in 1975, and remained a loyal and loving couple until his untimely passing.The first in his family to go to college, education would play a major role in Rick?s life and to so many others who knew him. For more than two decades, Rick shaped the lives of countless people as a coach, teacher and school administrator. In 2006, he retired in Athens, TX where he spent time doing the things he loved most ? spending time with his family and grandchildren at the lake, watching Longhorn football, riding motorcycles and always teaching. With his light-hearted and carefree spirit, Rick loved to tell stories and play games, always had a joke to tell, and leaves a legacy of memories for all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife: Yolanda Larkin of Georgetown, son: Benjamin Larkin of Dallas & wife Emily, daughter: Kelly Gonzales & husband Adrian of Georgetown, sisters: Pam Moore of Keller & Tina Horn of Arlington, brother: Marty Larkin of Fort Worth, and grandchildren: Jaxon and Bella Gonzales.
Funeral services will be Tues. May 27, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at Ramsey Funeral Home in Georgetown, TX with burial on Wednesday at 9:30 A.M. at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, TX.
