ARKADELPHIA, Ark. (posted 11/6/2015) – One day before the inaugural Great American Conference Men’s Soccer Championships, the league announced its All-Conference Teams and individual superlative awards. Ouachita Baptist University’s Sophomore Edward Pacheco and Head Coach Wilson Jones took home the Goalkeeper and Coach of the Year accolades. Ouachita was presented with the inaugural GAC Men’s Soccer regular season cup after their 4-1-1 finish in conference play. {{more}}Pacheco (Kennedale Class of 2013) and Jones helped the Tigers take home the GAC regular-season title. Pacheco posted a 4-0-1 record against GAC opposition with a 1.34 goals-against average and a shutout in those contests. Jones, in his first season with the Tigers, guided the program to the top seed for the upcoming GAC Men’s Soccer Championships.

Ouachita won the first ever Great American Conference Men?s Soccer Championship Tournament this past weekend, thanks, in no small measure, to Pacheco. In the finals against Oklahoma Baptist, Pacheco is credited with stopping five Bison shots on goal to earn his second consecutive shutout. Ouachita won game 2-0. For the tournament, Pacheco made eight saves. He was also named the tournament MVP.standout player at KHS …
Pacheco, who played on the Kennedale’s Wildcat soccer team was District MVP two years in a row for Kennedale when 3A Kennedale?s soccer district was composed of 4A and 5A teams. As a freshman, he was voted Freshman of the Year, Kennedale?s Newcomer of the Year and named to the 1st team All-District.
In a 1-0 win over Kennedale in 2012, Burleson Head Coach Chance Rose said of the then Wildcat junior goalkeeper Pacheco, ?Their keeper was phenomenal. We played great. We outshot them 14-2. We [just] had trouble finding a way around him.?
Pacheco who worked for a year before enrolling at OBU last year, was named to the Dean?s list for students who had made a 3.5 (on a 4.0 system) or better in his freshman year.
