Cats start district play Friday vs Springtown
The Springtown Porcupines come to town Friday night sporting a 4-1 record and looking to make an early claim to the District 5-4A title. {{more:Read … }}This is the first game of district play but it comes against the Kennedale Wildcats (2-3) who were the consensus favorite to win the district this year.

The Springtown Porcupines, known as the Pojos, are coming off a 37-27 win over 4A Vernon (1-5) last week. The Pojos started the season losing to Decatur (3-2) in a wild offensive game 74-42. That followed with wins over Stephenville (1-5) 30-28, Granbury (1-4) 51-7 and Gainesville (0-5) 61-32. Springtown has played teams with a combined record of 6 wins and 21 losses and has not been challenged greatly this season.

According to preseason information, Springtown returned 5 offensive starters and 6 on defense, finished 3rd in district and was a bi-district finalist losing to Sanger. Brian Hulett is in his third year as head coach at Springtown finishing 7-4 (2nd) in 2014 and 5-6 last year. Prior to Springtown, he was head coach for 6 years at Eastland going 12-1, 10-3 and 13-1 in his last three years.

Kennedale has a lot to play for including a two and half year 14 game home win streak, 4 straight district championships and pride. Springtown would like to avenge a 51-7 loss last year and 5 straight defeats at the hands of the Wildcats. This all makes for what should be a great game at Kennedale High School Friday night.
