Saturday, May 4, should be cool but otherwise perfect for a morning run/jog/shuffle in the park. This is the second year for the Delaney Dash/Shuffle which helps fund a scholarship for a deserving KHS senior.The scholarship program is named after James F. Delaney, who served as principal of Kennedale Elementary, Kennedale Primary and James F. Delaney Primary (James F. Delaney Elementary now). It was not that he jumped schools. {{more}}It was just that in his 40 plus years in the Kennedale school district, the school he was principal of grew, split, changed names and then grew more.?Those who knew him, know he changed very little and that his dedication to Kennedale ISD was unquestioned. His legendary gruffiness and temper were well known, but, what made him stand out was his prodigious memory, empahsis on learning and his love of basketball. He could cite a student’s grades, family connections and their grades if they had attended his school for multiple generations of family members. Perhaps due to his catholic school background, he place a lot of emphasis on memorization and rote learning. He often stopped students in the hallway to have them recite mulplication tables or spell a word.?Rumor also had it that he started basketball in Kennedale. While not true, he did have a lasting impact on many of KISD athletes with his early morning baskeball sessions and kept basketball alive in a place that for years was considered just a football town.?Delaney Dash/Shuffle details:$20 for Adults & $10 for Kids 10 & under?Registration forms available at the administration building, Delaney Elementary School, James A. Arthur Intermediate School, Kennedale Junior High or Kennedale High School. Forms due by 05/02/13.?Check in time is 7:30 a.m. Race starts at 8:00 a.m. at Sonora Park in Kennedale. Refreshments and light snacks provided.?Registration forms are due by May 2nd, prices go up after the May 2nd deadline with Race Day prices as follows: Adults $25 and Kids 10 & under $15. T-shirts to all registrants signed up by May 2nd. Additional T-shirts available for $10 each. Registration form and pmt are to be turned in to Arlene at the Administration Building.
