Glenn ready for challenges at Palacios ISD
Dr. Missy Glenn has hit the ground running as the new superintendent with the Palacios Independent School District. {{more: continue …}}??It?s been great and I?ve been very busy this week getting to know all the staff and students,? Glenn said. ?They have been warm and welcoming and I really appreciate that.?
Glenn said there were some similar traits between Palacios and her former stops that led her to seek out this position.??I spoke with the TASB representatives and I felt ready to apply for this position,? Glenn said. ?I had heard several different things about this district.??Having grown up in the Dallas area, Glenn said she could see a few similarities between the two areas when it came to the school districts that she was working with in the Dallas area.??There were some things with Kennedale and Palacios that are very similar,? Glenn said. ?The things that both have in common is that they are both tight-knit communities and there is a lot of longevity in the staff that are dedicated to the students. So when I read about Palacios it was a lot of the same things that I was used to in Kennedale. It is a little bit smaller than Kennedale but its very similar in a lot of ways.??I am one of those people that are hands-on and I get in there and work along side everyone and I plan on being an hands-on, active superintendent,? Glenn said. ?My familiarity with the systems that Palacios uses also will help me be successful as well.??Even though this is her first job as a superintendent, Glenn believes she was well trained for the job that lies ahead or her.?Glenn was named sole finalist for the post in December and was tabbed by the Palacios ISD Board of Trustees to replace outgoing superintendent Dr. Alexandro M. Flores.?At its Jan. 14 meeting, Dr. Glenn inked her new contract with the district and began work with the district Feb. 18. Dr. Glenn had been the Deputy Superintendent of Kennedale ISD since 2016 and prior to that served as Director of Finance for Birdville ISD.??It?s very familiar since when I was with Kennedale we had a superintendent that was set to retire so I had a great training opportunity and he allowed me a lot of opportunities to learn and I was fortunate to go through that,? Glenn said. ?I feel really prepared.??When it comes to challenges Glenn will tackle with Palacios ISD, she said the challenges facing this rural district is the same one that all the school districts across Texas are facing ? state funding and the formula used to fund public schools.??The biggest challenge facing all school districts right now is the state funding formula,? Glenn said. ?I know the legislative is trying to do some work this session on it and hopefully they will be successful. We will continue to provide for our students here and help them to be successful but school funding is difficult across the state and Palacios is no different.??Glenn is excited for the challenge that lies ahead of her with Palacios ISD. She believes that her addition will only strengthen an already strong school district that works hard for its students and its community.??I am excited to be here,? Glenn said. ?I am excited to be a part of their community. I think they have a great school system with dedicated employees. I am just excited to have the opportunity to continue their motto and that is ?keeping students first.? We do a great job of doing just that. It is an honor and privilege that this board has chosen me to lead them and continue on their path. I am ready to work with them and be a part of their community.???
