Brooks is accused of shooting Kennedale Junior High teacher John Ross Shreves, 27, in the parking lot of No Frills Grill & Sports Bar,4914 Little Road, in Arlington on June 9.

Authorities have not disclosed any information on a motive in the slaying.

Years ago, Brooks and Shreves had been classmates at Kennedale High School. They went their separate ways, but reconnected in January on a social media website. A witness told Arlington police that Shreves and Brooks texted each other and made plans to meet up on the night of June 9, a Sunday.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, Shreves picked Brooks up in Arlington and drove to the Arlington bar. The two were sitting in the car when a surveillance camera at Frills recorded multiple muzzle flashes inside the car and a man exiting the vehicle.

Brooks was arrested a few days after the killing.

Shreves had taught seventh-grade and eighth-grade English at Kennedale Junior High, his second year at the school, according to the Kennedale school district website. He had taught in the district three years.
