KHS Lady Kats Basketball: Battle of top teams turns into a rout 115-66

Before Tuesday night, Springtown was in sole possession of 2nd place in District 6-3A at 4-1, just one game behind the Kennedale Lady Kats (12-9, 6-0). This was the second meeting of the two teams after Kennedale won the first, 71-35.
 
Since that first game, the Lady Porcupines had played well against other district teams. {{more}}In a match-up with Kennedale, Springtown is an aggressive, physical team and has a pronounced height advantage over the quicker but smaller Kats. Maybe, this time they would be in position to mount a serious challenge to the Lady Kats.
 
But, it was not a night to mess with the Kats.
 
Senior McKinley Bostad, an Arkansas signee, scored 45 points, was 6-for-8 on 3-pointers and had nine assists. Jasmyn Poe (Jr) tossed in 29 points and Sadie Mahnesmith (Sr) added 19 point more. As a team, the Lady Kats shot nearly 60%.

Only a few minutes into the game McKinley had scored 14 points and the Lady Kats established a lead that they would never come close to losing. In the middle part of the first half, Springtown tried to mount a comeback. Using their height advantage to control the boards, the Lady Porcupines temporarily slowed the Kats, trading shots with the fast breaking, ball stealing Kennedale team. It worked for a while but the half ended with the Kats up by 21 at 65-44.

 
Kennedale Coach Mindy Morris, playing with only 7 players, had no way to slow down her hot shooting team. In the second half, Springtown managed just 22 points to Kennedale?s 50.
 
?They were just hot,? Morris said about Lady Kats. But she was in just in awe of McKinley?s performance. ?She just missed 3 shot – one 3 pointer and two 2 pointers.?
 
Scoring for Kennedale was Bostad (Sr) 45, Poe (Jr) 29, Mahnesmith (Sr) 19, Brenee Ellis (Sr) 8, Anna Llamas (Soph) 8, Dajia Simmons (Fr) 4 and Kathryn Mosley (Jr) 2.

There are only two chances left to see the Lady Kats at home before the end of the regular season. This Friday, Kennedale host Diamond Hill-Jarvis at 6:30 p.m. the following Friday night, Lake Worth will be visiting with the varsity game at 6:30 p.m. See
