The KHS cast and crew of the production of ?Silent Night has moved from district to bi-district to area and now regional competition. The UIL Region II contest this will be held at Texas A&M University-Commerce this Friday and Saturday, April 12-13.?

The play, written by Lauren Gunderson, is about a famous woman astronomer, Henrietta Leavitt and her career at Harvard College Observatory. The time is from approximately 1900 to 1952. Her most significant contribution was discovering a method to calculate the distance between earth and the stars. In addition to her work as a ?human computer?, she discovered more than 2,400 variable stars.

- District ?The cast and crew of ?Silent Sky? placed in the Top 3 at the 2019 District 9-4A UIL One Act Play Contest and advanced to the Bi-District UIL OAP Contest. The KHS production came in just behind #1 Castleberry in district scores.?
Alia Boubel and Madison Fail?were named to the District 9-4A All-Star Cast. Isaiah Willis was named to the Honorable Mention Cast.?
This was the 3rd consecutive year that KHS has advanced to the Bi-District round.?
- Bi-District ? This time around the KHS cast and crew?s production of ?Silent Sky? earned top billing at the UIL Class 4A Region II Bi-District OAP with a set of judges. The contest was held at IM Terrell High School in Fort Worth.
The win earned KHS an advancement to the UIL Area round along with the other top two productions on bi-district competition. This was the second year in a row for the KHS to advance beyond bi-district.?
Maddie Fail?from KHS was named Best Actress. Isaiah Willis was named to the Bi-District All-Star Cast and Alia Boubel was named to the Honorable Mention Cast.?
- Area ?. The KHS cast and crew of ?Silent Sky? placed in the Top 3 at the UIL Class 4A Area I One Act Play Contest at South Grand Prairie High School. No individual school rating was listed other than the naming of the three best production. The top three plays, including Kennedale, have advanced to the Region II Regionals.
Kristen Wirkler was named to the All Star Tech Crew for her work in the Sound category. Maddie Fail and Alia Boubel were named to the All Star Cast. And, Isaiah Willis was named to the Honorable Mention Cast.?
- Region ??For Kennedale, the win at area broke a long drought in advancement to the next level. It happen twice when two plays from Kennedale High School made it past region and on to state.? The first was in 1998 with the production of ?On the Verge? and then in 2000 with “Alice in Wonderland.” Both plays were under the direction of Mrs. Melissa Wallis.?
The UIL Class 4A Region II Contest will be held at Texas A&M University-Commerce on April 12-13.?The KHS theatre program is under the direction of Ms. Genevieve Croft, who teaches Theatre 1, 2, 3 and 4 as well as Technical Stage at Kennedale High School.
