Girls athletic program equals boys? program in Kennedale
All told, Kennedale has won 11 state titles for team sports over the last two decades. {{more:[read more]}}There have been more regional titles than that and many, many more district titles. And, this does not include some individual titles and state records.
For a handful schools, winning state titles is common as the next season, but for the overwhelming majority of high school, winning a single title is a historical event in that school?s history.
Kennedale belongs to another special group of schools that have won multiple titles in a variety of sports over a period of years.
By the numbers …
State titles:
- 11 over in the past two decades,
- 6 different sports,
- 6 in men?s sports
- 5 in women?s sports
- 3 different sports program have won multiple titles
- 2 have won back to back titles
- 1 sport has won a KISD record 3 titles
If you look at just UIL official sports, the women at Kennedale have won more state titles with 5 to just 3 by the men. Just don?t tell the men?s powerlifting program who has garnered three state title. (Powerlifting is not currently on the UIL official list).
With the win this year, the Lady Kat programs at Kennedale have won two state titles in soccer (2015, 2016), two state titles in softball (1998, 2000) and one in track (2004).
The Wildcat programs have won a state title in basketball (2008), baseball (2011), track (2014) and the powerlifting program won titles in 2007, 2008 and 2014.Near misses…Kennedale has come very close more than once. The girls softball program lost a championship game in 2003. The girls basketball program lost two championship games in 2008 and 2013. Girls track finished second in 2003, third in 2013 and fourth in 2014 and 2016. Boys track finished 4th in 2009 and 3rd in 2013.
