Last month the Texas High School Bass Association held its end of the year bass fishing championships at Lake Ray Hubbard. Two hundred and twenty-nine teams from all four regions of the state were extended invitations including one team from Kennedale High School. {{more:READ MORE…}}
The KHS Team of Riley Bush and Justin Harper, both freshmen, had made the cut after finishing in the top half of the regional tournament held earlier. Thus, placing them in the top quarter of the best high school anglers in Texas that were participating in the tournament.

The state tournament held May 21-22 turned out good weather and good results for the Bush and Harper. The young team from Kennedale finished #27 out of the 229 teams participating.
All high schools in Texas may enter teams. There is no size or enrollment limits or requirements. Teams from the biggest schools entered teams as well as the smallest.
qualifying wasn’t simple ….
To qualify, the KHS team had to have finished in the top 50% in a regional tournament. To qualify for the regional, a team has to be in the top 50% after fishing at least 3 regular tournaments during the school year in their division. There are four division in the state.
In their three qualifying tournaments, Bush and Harper finished no lower than the top 20%. At the regional tournament this year, they were in at #65 out of the 265 teams participating putting them in the top 25%.

This is twice in as many years that Kennedale has had a team qualified for the state tournament. The two year old KHS Bass Club is being advised by Biology and Outdoor Education teacher Danny Wilcox.
