Kats Rolling into Region Finals after sweep of Ft Stockton

With strong defensive play along with the hot bats of the LadyKats behind her, Alexa Niefert got a 8-1 win over Ft Stockton in the second game of the series that earned Kennedale a seventh trip to the region state finals.

 

It is the third time in four years that the Kats will be playing for a final four berth in Austin. {{more}}

Niefert pitched all seven innings, allowed one earned run on five hits and no walks while striking out two. For the game she had only 62 pitches with 44 strikes and got 18 fly/ground outs.

Elizabeth Schiele got 3 RBIs on a triple. Mary Grace Howard added a double and a single. Jamie Franks went 2 for 3 at the plate while Niefert was 2 for 4 contributing 2 runs.

Ft Stockton started the scoring with a run in the top of the first off of a single, sacrifice and a double. The Kats answer back with Neifert scoring on a pass ball after a Mary Grace Howard double. Score Kennedale 1, Fort Stockton -1

In the 2nd and 3rd Kennedale added runs on a Rebekah Abair single, a sacrifice by Ashley McElvaney and an Allie Turner fielder?s choice in the second and in the third a Howard steal of home after two walks and a base on error. Score Kennedale 3-1

In the bottom of the 4th, Kennedale jumped on the Prowlers by scoring five runs off of singles by Jamie Franks, Neifert, Jazlyn Crowder and a Schiele triple. Abair also singled in the inning. Score 8-1 Kennedale after 4.

After the first inning, Ft Stockton never offered a serious scoring threat, struggling at the plate with Niefert facing no more than four batters in any inning. The Prowlers put up only three in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 6th innings and only four in the other two innings.
