Kennedale Fire Dept assist with chemical plant fire overnight

In the early morning hours on Friday, the Kennedale Fire Department was called out to assist with a major fire near Rendon in south Tarrant County near Mansfield. {{more: Continue …}}

The fire was reportedly at the Southwestern Recycling Company, a chemical recycling plant located in the 5200 block of Newt Patterson Road off of Dick Price Road. The plant recycles paint and paint thinner.

There were several large explosions reported at the plant a little after 1 a.m. Heavy smoke was still billowing from the scene as day break arrived.

Mansfield, Rendon, Crowley, Kennedale, Everman and Lillian had units at scene. The Kennedale unit stayed about four hours.

No injuries were reported and it was believed that no one was in the building at the time of the fire.

Tarrant County fire officials said no evacuations of local residents were needed and the remaining blaze was being allowed to burn itself out.
