Kennedale Surprised in 5-2 Loss to the Lions

? ? ?The Wildcat baseball team which was had a strong showing in early season play has struggled in district play, losing Friday night to the Castleberry Lions 5-2. Earlier in the week they came away with a 3-2 win over Springtown in a surprisingly close game.

? ? ?The first inning the Wildcats showed some firepower {{more}}as Jake and Zac Michener scored on a single by Brett Taylor. Castleberry quickly matched Kennedale with a two-run inning of its own in the first. Castleberry scored on a two-run single by J. Maxwell.

Kennedale had chances throughout the game. In the second inning 2 were left on base. In the third Zac Michener hit a double but the Cats were unable to take advantage as the inning ended leaving two stranded. Castleberry had a one-run homer in the bottom of the third to put the Lions on top by one. The Wildcats had the bases loaded in the 4th with just one out but the Lions?s pitcher struck out Kennedale?s next two batters. Jake Michener had a single in that inning.

? ? ?Austin Eggleston and the defense for Kennedale looked good after the first inning. Eggleston had a three up and three down in the second. He did allow a homer in the 3rd but only let Castleberry put up four batters in the third and the fourth.

? ? ?In the fifth Kennedale again left two men standing on base while Castleberry had their big inning scoring three runs despite having their first two batters put out. Kennedale never really threatened after that except for a 2 out single by Josh Taylor in the top of the 7th. He was left stranded as the game ended on a ground out.
