Kennedale records 1st Covid death as numbers take a leap in North Texas

A summary of the past week shows Tarrant and Dallas counties remain active hot spots in Texas. Deaths and cases in these two areas set new highs last week. {{more: continue}}At the same time hospitalization is down in Tarrant as well as the State of Texas and recoveries continue to climb around Texas.?

On Friday, Tarrant County Public Health Director Vinny Taneja said it was sad to have to report new deaths.? As he told Jack Howland of the Star Telegram,? “This virus continues to take a toll on our community.”

He when on to note that residents should continue to stay home as much as possible, practice social distancing in public spaces and wash hands often.?

Kennedale City Mayor Brian Johnson reported earlier today that the first death in Kennedale as a result of the coronavirus was an 80+ year old female with underlying conditions.? ?

The following compares last week’s figures as reported in the Kennedale News to the current figures as of Sunday May 10, 2020. (all figures come from the sites listed at the bottom of this article)
  • Tarrant County reported 2,388 COVID-19 cases last Saturday. As of today, the number had reached 3,695 for a total of 1,307. (This has earns an asterick because the new number of cases was almost doubled by an out break in the federal prison located in Fort Worth).? But, even without that outbreak number, Tarrant County had already set a new record in number of new cases and deaths reported last week.?
  • Dallas County reported 3,531 total cases last week and now has 5,619 cases. Dallas County also broke new reporting numbers last week in case and deaths.
  • Meanwhile, the total for Texas has increased from 29,229 cases to 38,869 up 9,640.
  • Recoveries are up with Tarrant reporting 780 up from 551. Texas has 21,022 recoveries up from 14,122.?
  • Hospitalizations are down slightly with Tarrant County reporting 221 after reporting 225 last week. Texas a’lso reported fewer in the hospital with 1,626 down from 1,778.
  • Death totals have topped 100 going from 69 to 103. Dallas County has gone from 104 to 143 and Texas has increased, going from 816 deaths to 1,088.
  • Kennedale recorded six new cases last week for a total of nine and reported ints first Covid-19 death.?

  • 58% of those infected are males as opposed to females.
  • 65% of the deaths are ages 65 and above
