Kennedale High School soccer hit the road this weekend, going off in opposite directions to take on some top teams in those areas. The Wildcats headed north to play in the Paris Kings Classic Tournament while the LadyKats traveled south playing in the Boerne tournament. {{more: continue …}}

Wildcats are 1-1 ?

The Kennedale Wildcats opened up their season with a 1-0 scrimmage win against Graham and then in their first game of the season they surprised 6A Mansfield with a strong performance, losing in the final 18 seconds of the game 1-0. Last year, the Cats lost to the bigger school 5-0.

Yesterday in tournament play at Paris, Texas, the Cats got their first win with a 4-1 win over North Lamar. This was happening as North Texas was getting a severe blast of artic air with reports of 45 mph winds recorded in Paris.

Head Coach Heath Wakeland tweeted that the “KHS boys played hard through some tough conditions – 31 degrees (feels like 17 degrees) with 27 mph winds!! 4-1 win over North Lamar to start the tournament!!??

Today, the Wildcats will play Paris (3-1-1) in a 7 p.m. game. The Paris Wildcats won their district last year and had a 16-5-2, 7-1 record. On Saturday, Kennedale will take on Kemp (1-3-1) in a 2 p.m. game, also in tournament play.

LadyKats are 4-1-2 ?

After a good performance at their own tournament last weekend where the Kennedale LadyKats went 3-0-1 and took second place, the Kats have traveled to the Boerne tournament.

The first game of the tournament was played last night and matched Kennedale up with the tournament host and perennial 4A soccer power, the Boerne Lady Greyhounds. The two teams came away with a 2-2 tie. For the Lady Greyhounds it was some satisfaction after Kennedale had defeated them last year 2-0.

Boerne is currently 2-0-1. Last year, they finished 21-4-1, 8-0 and were the state runner-ups, losing to Stephenville in the state championship game 2-1.

Friday morning, the LadyKats came back to knock off Salado High School 2-0. Salado falls to 2-2-2. Friday afternoon the Kats will play 5A Champion High School (1-2-1) and then take on 6A MacArthur High School at 9 a.m on Saturday.
