in preseason workout and excited about this season |
Kennedale has already played five preseason scrimmage games.“We dominated all 5 of our scrimmage games,” said Patterson. She added (about the Lorena game), “Its going to be a good game. Lorena went to the Regional Quarterfinals last year and only graduated two of the girls from that team.”
Kennedale graduated five players last year – Shelby Flowers, Danielle Hedglin, Ashley Jones, Ashley Lineburger, and Sabrina Allen. There are four seniors this year – Kendall Vondra, Kylie Foster, Maggie Pyles, and Darby Smith. Kennedale has six returners this year leaving room for several places on the 12 member varsity team. Newcomers include Katie Miller and Jodi Dixon, up from the junior varsity team, Grace Guadagnolo, a freshman and Ranaja Taylor, a transfer from Grand Prairie.
?All will have significant playing time this year,? said Coach Patterson.
As far as district is concerned, ?Godley looks to be our only competition, but I don?t know what to expect from Midlothian Heritage,? said Patterson and added, ?They are a new school and new to our district. We will be scouting them before district starts.?
Patterson’s take on the team so far, ?It took us three weeks of play last year to get to where we are after two days of scrimmages this year. The girls are hungry for wins. I?ve set up a tough schedule so those wins are definitely going to be earned, but it will prepare us for playoffs. I can honestly say that we have 12 well- rounded, strong, smart, talented athletes on this team.?
Kennedale?s first home game is against Crowley, Tuesday, September 1 with the varsity game starting at 8 p.m. The first district will be September 28 at home against Midlothian Heritage.
