In the luck of the draw, two of the biggest names in regional girls basketball will face off in first round action Thursday afternoon at the Granbury Van Griffith Kia Tournament. {{more}}
In the latest Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Poll, the Stephenville Honeybees (9-1) are ranked #6 and the Kennedale Lady Kats (11-2) are ranked #8.
The two will face each other at 2:30 p.m. at Granbury High School Thursday afternoon. Stephenville was undefeated until Tuesday when they lost to Grandview 39-38.
The two teams have different styles of play. Kennedale likes a running game utilizing the press, counting on turnovers and layups. Stephenville uses a patience approach, working for the shot. Both have been successful over the years, making long runs in the playoffs.
Kennedale will face Alvord at 11:30 a.m. on Friday and El Paso Burges at 5:50 p.m. Bracket play starts Friday evening and continues on Saturday.
This past Tuesday evening, the Lady Kats defeated 5A Richland 59-52. Lady Kat Jasmyn Poe (Sr) poured in 34 points. Brenee Ellis (Sr) had 9, Lucy Benson (So) 8, Evie Whorley (Fr) 6 and Jasmine Alli (So) 2.
