Kennedale Basketball Update …?The Kennedale High School Lady Kats (17-14, 7-0) are trying to secure another district title with an undefeated district record after sweeping the first round of play. Kennedale travels to 4th place Western Hills to play at 6:30 p.m. tonight. {{more: continue …}}?Last Tuesday, the Kats defeated Castleberry 76-41 after downing Benbrook the week before by a score of 42-28.?In the Castleberry game, Reagan Jackson (FR) led all scorers with 31 points. Tawny Smith-Knox (SR) put in another 23. Other Kats scoring were Kelsey Martin (SR) with 7, Danielle Cooper (SR) 6, Ella Childress (JR) 6 and Brooke Geneva (JR) with 3 points. Berry also had 5 steals, 3 deflections, 4 asst and 11 total rebounds for the game. Smith-Knox kept up with her with 4 steals, 6 deflections, 9 assist, along with 2 rebounds.?In the Benbrook game, Smith-Knox had 22 followed by Jackson with 9, Martin 5 and Cooper 4. Childress and Morgan Coleman (JR) each had a point to round out the scoring.?As it stands the Lady Kats are first at 7-0 followed by Benbrook at 6-1, Lake Worth 4-2, and Western Hills 3-4. Castleberry, Dunbar and Diamond Hills fill out the rest of the rankings. The top four teams will advance to the 4A playoffs.?Wildcats sitting in second ??Meanwhile, the Wildcats (18-8, 4-1) are fighting it out with Dunbar, Benbrook and Western Hills for the top spots with one game left in the first round of district play. Tonight, they will play at Western Hills with the varsity game set for 8 p.m.?The only district loss for the Cats came at the hands of Dunbar on January 7, losing in a close one 84-78. On Tuesday the Cats defeated Castleberry 67-44 after beating Benbrook 71-55 the week before.?In the Castleberry win, Wayne Landry?(SR) led all scorers with 16 points. Wildcat player Blake Taylor (SR) tossed in 13, followed by Christian Whitaker (SO) with 10, James Cain (SR) 6, and Scott Whorley?(JR) 6. Devin Pickett Jr (SR) and Francis Rivera (JR) both finished the game with 2 points each. Landry also had 4 steals, 1 deflection, 2 assist and 6 rebounds.?Scott Whorley had 32 points in the win over Benbrook last week. Also, in that game, Cain had 16 points, Taylor 11, Landry 8, Austin Pickett (FR) 2 and Versie Hodges (SR) 2. Whorley also had 7 steals, 3 deflections and four offensive rebounds for the Cats.?Upcoming games for both teams ??The Lady Kats and the Wildcats will play ast home against Lake Worth on Tuesday night next week. Both teams will travel to Dunbar on Friday, January 31. On both nights, the Lady Kats will play at 6:30 p.m. followed by the Wildcats at 8 p.m. This game, in all likelihood, will determine the boys’ district title.
