Lady Kats start playoff run with Castleberry tonight

The Kennedale Lady Kats volleyball team will play Castleberry this evening at 6 p.m. at Crowley High School in a Bi-District match-up. {{more}}
 

The Lady Kats are ranked #24 in the latest Texas Girls Coaches Association statewide 4A poll and are coming off strong finish in district play, winning a share of District 7-4A and finishing the regular season at 18-12. TGCA

The Kats are playing some of their best volleyball of the season and just at the right time. Kennedale plays in Region 1 which happens to have the No. 1 and 2 teams in Class 4A, Decatur (30-9) and Bushland (35-4).
 
While Decatur and Bushland are listed as the favorites for Region 1, Kennedale is labeled as one of the teams to watch by TGCA along with Dalhart (26-12) and Seminole (31-6). Dark Horse candidates are Monahan, Godley and Abilene Wylie.
 
Kennedale will not have to face either of the top two teams until regional play begins and the Lady Kats have an excellent chance to play in the regional quarterfinals. See the UIL Region 1&3 Playoff Brackets
 
KHS players to watch include:
  • Maggie Pyles (Jr) leading the team with 220 kills along with 240 digs, 34 aces and 21 tl blocks;
  • Bethany Klinkenberg (So) second with 103 kills, 28 digs and 17 tl blocks;
  • Danielle Hedglin (Sr) leading the team with 269 digs and 479 successful serving receives also has 18 aces;
  • Darby Smith (Jr) leads with 46 serving aces along with 100 kills, 13 tl blocks and 211 digs;
  • Jasmine Alli (So) second on the team in tl blocks with 48 (32 solo) along with 55 kills and 16 digs;
  • Kendra Vondra (Jr)with 227 assists, 92 digs and 28 kills;
  • Kylie Foster (Jr) who leads the team with 313 assists along with 91 kills and 21 aces;
  • Shelby Flowers (Sr) with 71 kills, and 60 tl blocks (26 solo); and,
  • Raeley Crosley (Fr) with 70 kills, 70 tl blocks (37 solo), 63 digs and 19 aces.
The winner of this match will play Wylie HS (28-12) who was winner over Wichita Falls Hirschi 25-7, 25-14, 25-9 Monday night. Place and time to be announced.
