The culprit was not a wreck but a hole that was discovered in the the center lane of the westbound I-20 bridge over Business 287/Kennedale Parkway, west of the U.S. 287/Loop 820 split.
Officials with the Texas Department of Transportation had closed the bridge through rush hour Wednesday so crews could fill it in.
Traffic snarled for hours and caused backs up on Little Road and the westbound service road for I-20 between Little and Bowman Springs. It also sent heavy traffic through Kennedale as travelers were trying to find alternate routes home.
All lanes of I-20 were reopened at about 3:30 a.m. Thursday.
