Eight contestants evenly split between 7th and 8th grade battled for an hour and 15 minutes to determine this year?s winner. Sarah Asmaty represented the 8th grade into the 16th round, but it took another three rounds and two championship rounds to crown Gage as the victor.
Cris Vint was first to attempt the championship word but ultimately placed 2nd against Gage in the final round. These two were the final two in last year?s competition but the outcome was reversed with Chris as the winner last year and Gage as the runner up.
Both Gage and Cris competed in the Area Spelling Bee on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at Burleson High School where Gage took 3rd place out of 23 contestants representing Kennedale, Everman, Burleson and Crowley. He was the sole boy in the top three of an 11 round bee and lasted into round seven.
?Gage Matthews and Cris Vint both represented Kennedale Junior High School very well, and we can only look forward to next year?s battle.? said Miss Martin.
