Pastor Nelda’s Notes: Disciples

?
For the last three weeks we have been discussing “Making Disciples for Jesus Christ. In order to “Make Disciples” you must first be a “Disciple”. The book of John says that a disciple of Jesus is a worshiper, a servant, and a witness. {{more: continue …}}
?
As a disciple who is a worshiper, servant and witness, a disciple is simply someone who believes in Jesus. A person who seeks to follow him in his or her daily life. In Scripture, a disciple was someone who literally knew Jesus in the flesh and followed him, but after Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection, anyone who was committed to Jesus was called a disciple. That?s what we are, now that we have come to Christ and are seeking to follow him.
?
Being a disciples also means that we want to learn from him, and we will, as we study God?s word, the Bible, and listen to others teach from it. Make the Bible part of your life every day. The Psalmist said, ?The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple? (Psalm 119:130).
?

But being a disciple also means we want to put God?s word into action. We seek to live the way Christ wants us to live, with God?s help. We should thank God every day for his great love for you, and ask him to help you share his love with others.

?
We have two responsibilities as Christian disciples. We want to learn from God through His teaching, and to live our lives daily through our actions.The second responsibility of a disciple is to put God’s teaching into action on a daily basis. Being a disciple also means we want to put God’s Word into action by seeking to live the way Christ wants us to live.
?
The title of disciple doesn’t imply a higher level of dedication to God than a Christian, both are equal. “If you are born again through faith in Jesus, you are a disciple of the Lord. There are no ‘second string’ disciples in God’s family. You are either born again, or not. If you are saved, it was the Good News which God used to grant you salvation,” Delzell writes, citing Romans 10:17 which states that “Faith comes from hearing the message.” By being inducted into God’s family, you have earned the title of disciple.
?
You cannot work your way into the position of a disciple. No one has ever been made a disciple by his works. Disciples do good works because they have been brought into God’s family by the power of the Gospel. As Christian disciples we can always strengthen our relationship with God. All of us who could be living more like Christ. As disciples of Jesus Christ, let’s seek to live each and everyday to be more like Him.

“I don’t know how, but I know WHO!”

See you on Sunday!

Peace,

Pastor Nelda
